Labor force participation rate had been declining since 2015 despite the continued increase of population 15 years and over in the last 5 years. Labor force participation dropped from 63.7% in 2015 to 61.2% in 2017. In contrast, population 15 years and over increased from 68 million in 2016 to 70 million in 2017.

Growth trend in the employment rate from 2012 to 2017 had been mixed. In 2017, employment rate at 94.3% was lower by 0.2 percentage point compared to 2016. Significant drop in underemployment rate was posted in 2017, decreasing from 18.3% in 2016 to 16.1% in 2017.
